Hi, I'm Leroy Mora
Who am I?
I grew up on the southside of Pueblo along with my five siblings, raised by a single mother. For most of my childhood and into my teenage years we lived at the Sangre De Cristo housing projects. When I wasn't in school I spent most of my time at the Boys and Girls club.
I attended Washington Elementary, Corwin Middle and Central High school before receiving my bachelors and masters degrees from Colorado State University - Pueblo.
I have been married to my beautiful wife Kathy for 28 years. We have four amazing children, two daughters-in-law (one soon to be), one son-in-law, six grandchildren and two grandpups named Brutus and Arlo.
In my free time, I really enjoy running and playing golf. My sister and I are currently training to run a half marathon this October. My golf game is a work in progress, but my boys enjoy playing golf, so I take advantage of spending time with them on the golf course.
On the first Thursday of every month, we host a law enforcement luncheon for active and retired officers. We not only share a meal with them, but we provide them with words of encouragement and them that the Pueblo community supports them and the work they do does not go unnoticed.
We also host a 13-week Divorce Care group. Divorce can be devastating to families, and we want to guide individuals on the path of recovery after a divorce. We walk alongside them giving them encouragement and support. We want them to know they
are not alone during a difficult season like divorce and a new season is waiting for them.
I am a cancer survivor. In 2020 the direction of my life and the lives of my family changed when I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. As a family we leaned into our faith and together we took this challenge head on. After successful surgery and five years of testing I can now say “I am Cancer Free.” For the men out there, I urge you to
get annual checkups, because early detection is critical as it saved my life. and allowed me to continue spending time with my family, serve the people around me and strive to reach my goals.
A Resume Built for a Sheriff
I am a proud Pueblo native and graduate of Pueblo Central High School. After graduation, I answered the call to serve by joining the Colorado Army National Guard, where I retired with the rank of First Sergeant after a distinguished military career.
I earned both my Bachelors degree in Business and my Master of Business Administration From Colorado State University-Pueblo.
I served 27 years with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, retiring as a captain. Throughout my career I held command positions in all three major bureaus-Enforcement Services, Detention and Emergency Services - providing broad leadership across virtually every aspect of agency operations.
I was honored to graduate from the prestigious 255th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. I also served as President of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, where I worked alongside law enforcement leaders from across the region to promote leadership, professionalism, and excellence in policing.
My commitment to service continues today as a Special Deputy with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, where I’m working to build a chaplain program to provide emotional, spiritual, and peer support for deputies and their families.
I also serve as Department Chair of the Pueblo Law Enforcement Academy at Pueblo Community College, helping educate and prepare the next generation of ethical, well-trained law enforcement professionals.
Beyond public service, I am proud to own multiple small businesses in Pueblo, reflecting my commitment to entrepreneurship, local economic growth, and investing in the community that has given so much to me.
Pueblo has always been my home. My life has been dedicated to serving this community—with integrity, professionalism, and accountability—and I would be honored to continue that service as your next Pueblo County Sheriff.
